 Baptist Cowgirl

A cowgirl, who is visiting Texas from Arkansas,

walks into a bar and orders three mugs of Bud.

She sits in the back of the room, drinking a sip

 out of each one in turn.

When she finishes them, she comes back to

the bar and orders three more.

The bartender approaches and tells the cowgirl,

“You know, a mug goes flat after I draw it.

It would taste better if you bought one at a time.”

The cowgirl replies, “Well, you see, I have two sisters.

One is in Australia, the other is in Dublin.

When we all left our home in Arkansas, we promised

that we’d drink this way to remember the days when

we drank together. So I’m drinking one beer for each

 of my sisters and one for myself.”

The bartender admits that this is a nice custom,

 and leaves it there.

The cowgirl becomes a regular in the bar,

 and always drinks the same way.

She orders three mugs and drinks them in turn.

One day, she comes in and only orders two mugs.

All the regulars take notice and fall silent.

When she comes back to the bar for the second round,

 the bartender says, “I don’t want to intrude on your grief,

 but I wanted to offer my condolences on your loss.”

The cowgirl looks quite puzzled for a moment, then

a light dawns in her eyes and she laughs.

“Oh, no, everybody’s just fine,” she explains,

“It’s just that my husband and I joined the

Baptist Church

 and I had to quit drinking.

“Hasn’t affected my sisters though!”

 My eldest will not be happy when she realises that Santa can’t transport a ‘cute white puppy’ from Lapland to Kildare…

Tackle it Tuesday

November 21, 2006

Seems to be all the rage in America! Well, I need to tackle so many things today. Little Boys room was still not ready to move into at the weekend, in fact, the room looks worse than when I actually started it. So, in my own true style…I’ll leave it!

 Instead, I’m going to give my car a clean-out then take it to be washed. That itself is a great task for me. My car has only been spotless once, the day I bought it.

 I look around the house and think ‘Must do that soon, must clear that out soon, must take that to the recycling tomorrow’ so much to do, so little time. I tried very hard last week to become more organised, but it’s not as easy as I imagined! So, I’ll try again this week. If I do get the car done today, it will be a start!

Take a look at this!

Make a memory with your children,
Spend some time to show you care;
Toys and trinkets can’t replace those
Precious moments that you share.
Money doesn’t buy real pleasure,
It doesn’t matter where you live;
Children need your own attention,
Something only you can give.
Childhood’s days pass all too quickly,
Happy memories all too few;
Plan to do that special something,
Take the time to go or do.
Make a memory with your children,
Take the time in busy days;
Have some fun while they are growing,
Show your love in gentle ways.

Old age setting in…

Bad news, I spent a small fortune on a little tube of anti-wrinkle cream. Good news, it WORKS! <click

 I’ve been conscious of the lines under my eyes for years. I’ve tried many creams, but this one is the one that works for me. And yes, I am vain! But I want to look younger, don’t you?

 I’m trying to get through a couple of books before the ‘date stamp’ of December 8th!  Our library has about 3,ooo books to choose from, but this one just begged me to be brought home. The cover appealed to me from a box of books which had just been delivered! I’m the first to read it and the book is pristine!
