Sisters of Mercy

A man was driving down the highway, and sees a sign saying “Sisters of Mercy, House of Prostitution, 10 miles” Thinking it is some sort of joke, he pays no attention, until he sees a similar sign reading “Sister’s of Mercy, House of Prostitution, 5 miles.”Still unsure, he drives on, until spotting a third sign saying “Sister’s of Mercy, House of Prostitution, next exit”. His curiosity getting the better of him, he takes the exit and parks his car outside the convent. He knocks on the door, and tells the nun who answers “I saw your signs on the highway, are they for real?”The nun answers “Yes”, and tells him to give her $50 and follow her to a room.He enters a room, and a second nun requests $50, and leads him to a door. Once he opens the door, he is quickly shoved outside by the nun.

He finds himself behind the convent, where he sees the final sign,

“Thank you for you contributions, you have just been screwed by the Sisters of Mercy.”

Christianity…is it for me?

October 18, 2006

image9.gif  I often look through the local newsletter and ponder on Christianity. I had a strong belief in God before I very tragically lost my brother, it weakened once more when my Mum died of cancer in 2002. I questioned His reasons over and over, in fact, this is the second time I’ve blogged about my dwindling faith. I suppose there is a reason as to why God takes those we love, but accepting His reasons have been very difficult for me. My Mother had a very strong faith in God, but then she needed to have, her husband, my Dad, was a very difficult man to live with! She also had eight children with him. Losing the youngest must have been very hard for them. This is why I feel God must have pulled her through.

 To Kill an American

You probably missed it in the rush of news last week, but there was actually a report that someone in Pakistan had published in a newspaper an offer of a reward to anyone who killed an American, any American.

                         file0047.jpg

So an Australian dentist wrote an editorial the following day to let everyone know what an American is, so they would know when they found one.

“An American is English, or French, or Italian, Irish, German, Spanish, Polish, Russian or Greek. An American may also be Canadian, Mexican, African, Indian, Chinese, Japanese, Korean, Australian, Iranian, Asian, Arab, Pakistani or Afghan.

An American may also be a Comanche, Cherokee, Osage, Blackfoot, Navaho, Apache, Seminole or one of the many other tribes known as native Americans.
An American is Christian, or he could be Jewish, Buddhist, or Muslim.
In fact, there are more Muslims in America than in Afghanistan. The only difference is that in America they are free to worship as each of them chooses.
An American is also free to believe in no religion. For that he will answer only to God, not to the government, or to armed thugs claiming to speak for the government and for God.
An American lives in the most prosperous land in the history of the world. The root of that prosperity can be found in the Declaration of Independence, which recognizes the God given right of each person to the pursuit of happiness.
An American is generous. Americans have helped out just about every other nation in the world in their time of need, never asking a thing in return.
When Afghanistan was over-run by the Soviet army 20 years ago, Americans came with arms and supplies to enable the people to win back their country!
As of the morning of September 11, Americans had given more than any other nation to the poor in Afghanistan. Americans welcome the best of everything…the best products, the best books, the best music, the best food, the best services. But they also welcome the least.
The national symbol of America, The Statue of Liberty, welcomes your tired and your poor, the wretched refuse of your teeming shores, the homeless, tempest tossed. These in fact are the people who built America.
Some of them were working in the Twin Towers the morning of September 11, 2001 earning a better life for their families. It’s been told that the World Trade Centre victims were from at least 30 different countries, cultures, and first languages, including those that aided and abetted the terrorists.

So you can try to kill an American if you must. Hitler did. So did General Tojo, and Stalin, Mao Tse-Tung and other blood-thirsty tyrants in the world. But, in doing so you would just be killing yourself. Because Americans are not a particular people from a particular place. They are the embodiment of the human spirit of freedom. Everyone who holds to that spirit, everywhere, is an American.”

BATTLE OF THE BOYNE

July 12, 2006

Today, tens of thousands of Orangemen and supporters are set to attend Northern Ireland’s Twelfth of July parades.

The largest demonstration of the day will be in Belfast and there will be 17 main venues across six counties.

The Independent Orange Order demonstration will be in Portrush in County Antrim.

Sinn Fein President, Gerry Adams said:

“I would once again appeal to people over the coming days, in spite of provocation and in spite of the continued insistence of the Orange Order to march in areas where they are clearly not welcome, to remain calm”

“Shearer scores, Jesus Saves!” 🙄
